Protection and Control Engineer

Senior-level and Mid-level Protection and Control Engineer needed in Chicago.

Our client, a leading engineering and consulting firm has an immediate opening for both a mid-level and senior-level Protection and Control Engineer in their downtown Chicago office.

Power Engineering or Protection and Control experience for electric utilities or an engineering firm that designs electric utility projects for medium and high voltage substations is strongly preferred.

Specific experience with design of system protection and control along with hands-on substation testing. This individual must have the ability to design and interpret one-line, three-lines, electrical elementary, electrical connections and wiring diagrams. Experience developing relay schemes, designing protective relay systems and determining the necessary settings is required. A basic working knowledge of AutoCAD drafting techniques is a plus.

Resumes must show a focus on the engineering side of protective relays, as opposed to the operating side. Utility/Power Company experience is preferred.

This position requires a BSEE from an accredited University and a Professional Engineer's License or the ability to obtain one. Position offers competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Qualifications/Responsibilities
• B.S. or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Emphasis
• Recent graduate, or seasoned engineer with experience in electric power system protection and analysis
• Excellent technical writing and presentation skills
• Willing to travel up to 25%
• Willing to relocate to Chicago
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
• Ability to teach, build consensus, and provide technical leadership
• Experience with Schweitzer relays along with SEL Accelerator preferred.
• Requires experience performing power systems analysis using software such as: SKM, EDSA, CYME, ETAP and ATP to perform short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, harmonic, transient, motor starting and load flow studies.
• Experience must include developing relay schemes, designing protective relay systems, and determining the necessary settings.
• Experience must include programming of protective relays and development of communications for protective relay schemes.
